Your Personal Goals for the New Year

personal goals

This is it. The year is ending. Whether you like it or not, 2016 will start this Friday. So, it’s time to set personal goals.

There has probably been a lot of talk in your Box about goals. What goals your members are striving for. What goals your Coaches are aiming to reach. But, don’t forget to set some goals for yourself.

Now, I’m not talking about the goals of your Box. If I was, I would have said “your business’ goals.” What I am talking about are your personal goals, those things outside of your Box.

You might be thinking, “What are you talking about? My business IS my entire life.”

Well, maybe that’s your first goal: to make your business not be your whole life.

Don’t get me wrong, work is essential. Your job and career are both key. However, more and more I read how they should not run your life, that they should not be your all-in-all. Before you opened your Affiliate, you probably had other hobbies and dreams. You might have spent all day with the kids. But now, well, you barely have time for any of those things you did before starting up your Box.

So whether you like it or not, I’m challenging you to use this New Year and set resolutions/goals for yourself. I am sure there are things you want to learn, skills you’d like to have, outside of CrossFit. Maybe it’s renovating the kitchen. Perhaps it’s conquering the Inca Trail. Could it be volunteering at a local animal shelter? Or, maybe it’s as simple as spending two hours a day with your family.

The thing is, if you’re not building into yourself as a person, you aren’t going anywhere. You have to remember that you have a life outside of your Box. Your members will appreciate you taking care of other areas of life, because that’s sure to have positive effects on your ownership of the gym. Plus, you just might inspire your staff to seek out opportunities for they themselves to grow personally.

Just as CrossFit is there to make your mind and body stronger, other hobbies and goals can be there to do the same for other areas of your life. Don’t ignore your personal goals. Set an example for your members, staff, family and friends this year and for the rest of your life.
