Did you know that CrossFit is a $4 billion industry? The sport has exploded from just 13 Boxes in 2005 to more than 11,000 in 2015. The craze of CrossFit is truly remarkable.
In light of this, Dollamur Sport Surfaces (Dollamur) recently renewed its partnership with CrossFit legend, Jason Khalipa.
Khalipa, 2008 CrossFit Games champion, has six top-10 finishes and is one of only a few select athletes commonly referred to as the “Fittest Man on Earth.” Much of CrossFit’s success can be attributed to him.
In addition to his impressive resume as a competitor, he also owns and manages 20 CrossFit boxes worldwide through the Bay Area’s leading affiliate, NorCal CrossFit. A three-time Team USA CrossFit member, Khalipa launched his CrossFit career in 2006 and has participated in seven CrossFit Games.
Dollamur recognized its unique skill set to produce high-quality, safe mats and partnered with Khalipa to produce the most versatile mat in the industry, the GO Mat.
Proudly made in the USA, it provides more cushioning than a typical fitness mat, making it great for pushups, planks or crunches at home. Using Flexi-Roll technology, the lightweight surface offers quick and easy storage, transforming any space into a fitness room.
“Combining my industry knowledge with Dollamur’s firepower has produced a multipurpose, high-quality mat ideal for any workout,” says Khalipa, a native of San Jose, Calif. “I look forward to continuing to work with Dollamur, taking CrossFit innovation to new heights.”
The GO Mat is affordable compared to similar products, starting at just $99 and offers a five-year limited warranty. The mat is available in five colors: black, pink, charcoal, red and royal blue.
“Jason’s engineering of the GO Mat has helped transform CrossFit into a multi-billion dollar industry,” says Don Ochsenreiter, Dollamur’s CEO. “The sport has experienced unrivaled growth, exploding from 13 Boxes in 2005 to more than 11,000 in 2015.”
Widely preferred by CrossFit athletes, Dollamur is one of the safest mats in the industry. In a sport so grueling, safety is paramount. WODs push athletes’ muscles to the brink of failure. Confidently knowing you have a safe surface to train provides athletes with peace-of-mind necessary to push themselves to the next level.
CrossFit fans worldwide eagerly await the sport’s pinnacle event in July, the 2015 Reebok CrossFit Games, annually held at the StubHub Center in Carson, California. The event has seen impressive participation results, with 166 percent year-over-year growth rate.
To put this in perspective, last year’s event was televised on ESPN and sponsored by Reebok with $2 million in prize money awarded.
The Games are the ultimate fitness test. They spawned from a lack of a sport or competition that could accurately test strength, endurance and mental fortitude.
The sport is so unique because of the high-octane, multi-dimensional workouts that test every aspect of fitness possible. It truly promotes creativity — any workout you can think of can be applied to your WOD.
What makes the Games exciting is the exercises are so unpredictable. Athletes often won’t know what their task or exercise is until hours, or even minutes, before competition. In turn, athletes must prepare themselves for all facets of fitness. There is no luck in CrossFit.
Khalipa, a CrossFit Games veteran, recently announced for the first time in eight years that he won’t be competing as an individual at the CrossFit Games. However, he will be participating with a team in May.
The CrossFit Games have evolved throughout the years. Initially, they only used the tennis courts outside of the StubHub Center. As the Games have expanded, they now utilize the natural grass soccer field inside of the StubHub Center — the same field Major League Soccer’s LA Galaxy competes on throughout the year.
CrossFit isn’t just a sport, it’s a lifestyle. For those who are new to it, CrossFit will open its arms to you and challenge you with its versatile WODs.
Some health and wellness executives believe CrossFit is the biggest breakthrough in the fitness industry in the past 25 years. The rise of this phenomenon is the way of the future. At the sport’s current rate of growth, it’s possible in the next few years 20,000 Boxes could exist.
Recently, Nike has also joined the CrossFit trend. It developed the Metcon 1 Training Shoe, a jack-of-all-trades, providing support for any workout CrossFit throws at you. There has been considerable buzz in the fitness community surrounding Nike’s entry to CrossFit. Who knows which company is next in line to grab a piece of the CrossFit pie.
With Dollamur producing state-of-the-art mats with Khalipa, the dynamic duo will continue to churn out the best training surfaces in the business.
Well, what are you waiting for? It’s WOD time!
