And here we are in 2018. Woah. Did anyone else feel like 2017 flew by?
When the ball dropped, you probably had one of two reactions: Either you were sad to see 2017 go, or you were like, “About time. You sucked.”
Maybe like me you had a little bit of both. There were some sweet parts to 2017, but there were also some hard times, some difficult lessons and pain. But, in the end I’m a pretty positive, “silver-lining” type of person so I’d say 2017 was great, and I’m looking forward to 2018.
But if your last year just tanked, whether professionally or personally, then welcome to 2018. I hope and pray it’s better to you than 2017. And while I think sometimes stuff just happens, there are a few things you and I can do to hopefully set us up for success this year, beyond just setting goals.
First, mindset is key. Positioning your mindset can make or break you. Evaluate your mindset this past year. Was it more negative or positive? When stress hit, how did you react? Were you more mentally strong or weak? If you could change one thing about your mindset in 2017, what would it be?
That is your first aim for 2018 — change your mindset, or keep it the same if it was already great. I know for me a large change in mindset deals with how I view myself. I have been learning a lot about self-worth, about valuing my time and who I want to be. And I’ve been learning how to surround myself with truth in these things.
Second, what did you do for yourself in 2017? Did you keep a strict workout schedule or did you only get your fitness on when time allowed — which probably wasn’t very often? How was your nutrition? Did you read any books or pursue any self-development? Have you sought out a mentor to lead and guide you?
If you answered no to most of those questions, 2018 might need to be a year of self-development. I know if I’m not growing, I can’t help those around me grow. If I’m not taking care of myself, how can I take care of others?
Third, and on the opposite side of the spectrum, what did you do for those around you? How did you serve your team this past year? How did you pour into your staff? How did you help someone grow or succeed? What did you do to better your product for your audience?
The last point needs to be a large part of your focus this year and every year to come. Your Box is around because of your members. You need to figure out what they want in 2018 and how to provide it.
It’s a new year and a new chance to propel your business further along the road to success. Don’t wait until 2019, because it’s an entire year away.
