Laura Rupsis of Absolution CrossFit shares about her experience in partnering with Primal Health Coach.
LR: I was looking for an ancestral health based program I could use with my health coaching clients and gym members. I already had a cert from another program, but the actual nutrition science education was lacking and so was the business support. The Primal Health Coach program is aligned with my ancestral health bias and personal lifestyle choices. At the time I enrolled I was looking for a deeper dive into nutrition and health sciences, business tools and resources, and community.
LR: It provided a deeper understanding in nutrition biochemistry, biology and exercise science that was missing from my first cert. It also brought an infrastructure that was missing in my gym that made getting an organized, structured nutrition program up and running possible and relatively easy. It has made it repeatable and scalable. This has lead to greater confidence in what we are doing, more revenue generated per member, and increased new member interest due to how we market what we bring to the table compared to other Boxes in our area.
It is clear from the beginning of their experience with us that to achieve the results they are looking for it will take more than sneaking in a few WODs a week. How you fuel you body, how you rest your body and essentially how you treat your body the other 24 hours out of the day are more important. It has created an extension of us that impacts their lives when they are not at the Box. Those who implement our nutrition and lifestyle advice look better, feel better, perform better and recover better than those who don’t.
LR: Absolutely. The community in particular. I expected to get access to a community of paleo/primal people I could interact with, but I got much more than that. The Facebook groups that have been created are absolutely amazing. The level of support is great, but more importantly the level and diversity of knowledge and skill sets I can tap into are fantastic. I haven’t found any massive ego’s either. We all understand nutrition is nuanced and really confounding that it is often about digging deeper and trouble shooting, no room for ego’s here.
LR: If you don’t already have a nutrition program at your gym, you need one. CrossFit is growing. It is like Starbucks in some areas where there is a CrossFit gym every few miles. We are all relying on the same brand so it is hard to differentiate ourselves from one another. Not many Boxes really use nutrition well. Most either sponsor challenges here and there, or give a nod to the Zone or paleo without any real guidance. Some actually do offer macro guidelines for folks, which is better than nothing, but at the end of the day it is just a diet. We all know how well that works out long term.
It’s like the difference between giving a man a fish versus teaching him to fish. You need an education program with practical guidance on how to apply what they’ve learned to their own lives based on their own goals. Primal Heath Coach is about using real food rather than products and gimmicks. It’s about nutrition not a diet. But it also dials in the lifestyle factors that diets ignore. It really is a whole package. With the addition of the Box Resource Center it’s been dialed in to be relevant specifically to CrossFit. There is no other program out there that does all that.
