Why You Need to Grow as a Leader

grow leader

Interestingly, Val Wright was a source for one of the first stories on Box Pro’s website.

Then I chatted with her while researching for The Belltown Difference cover story. It was great getting her perspective on the Box and Nadia Shatila, but what was even better was picking her brain about leadership.

Finally, she sent me a copy of her book, “Thoughtfully Ruthless,” which changed the way I worked — namely checking email — as well as making my health, my wellness and my rest a priority — that’s where ruthless comes in.

So, with Box Talk needing a never-ending lineup of experts for me to chat with, it made sense to email Val Wright, one of the best leadership experts I know. And being down for anything, she agreed to chat.

One of the best things I like about Box Talk is it’s a chance for me to have “face to face” — via Skype — conversation with people. Typically for a story I will shoot over an email or call someone up on my phone, but I have more time for the podcast. This way I can sit down, read their expressions and understand more of who they are as a person.

Wright was no different. As I picked her brain about leadership and her journey, I understood her passion more and more. That is one of the best things to see: a passion in someone for helping people. Luckily, I see that every day in the Box owners I talk to!

However, passion isn’t enough. Wright and I chatted for a while about leaders in business and what some of their biggest mistakes are. We also dove in to ways one can grow and become a better leader. As an owner of a business, I urge you to never stop learning, especially about leadership. You are impacting so many that it’s crucial you continue to develop into the best leader you can be so those below can grow as well.

With that said, take a listen to the latest episode on leadership and see how you too can grow into becoming a better leader in your business:
