Let’s Take a Break Today

take a break

There I was, flying through the dark. Cave walls sped past me and the wind whistled through my helmet.

I gave a cry of joy as I careened toward a lone guide with nothing but a rope and a mattress to stop me from slamming into a stone wall.

On Sunday, I went zip lining underground at the Louisville Mega Cavern. The previous week had been beyond busy, what with life and the Open happening on top of the March/April issue of Box Pro going to print. I had collapsed Friday night and wouldn’t have moved from my bed until Monday morning if obligations at my Box and previous commitments I made hadn’t called me forth.

But, the two hours I spent underground learning how bats feel flying blind, I realized it was a good thing that I dragged myself out of the house. I needed this time of fun and friends. I needed to set aside a couple of hours where I could step away and not worry about the rest of life.

I’m not saying that was easy. I had reservations about going because I knew I had work that needed to get done. Thankfully, I had already bought the ticket and couldn’t back out! But in all honestly, I knew my work would be more efficient if I took a break.

Affiliate, I know it can be hard to step away from your Box. You’ve raised it from infancy and you want to be with it every moment to ensure it’s safe and growing up well. But you not getting away can have a detrimental effect on you and your business. I know you’ve heard before to take a vacation, but what about a daily rest from your work?

Go for a hike at a local park. Visit that restaurant you’ve had your eye on forever. Take a zip lining tour in your city’s No. 1 tourist attraction, as voted by Trip Advisor.

However you decide to spend it, you need a break, Affiliate. You need to breathe away from your business. When you come back refreshed and relaxed, your staff will notice. They will be positively impacted, and thus, so will your Box. It’s a waterfall effect and it begins with you, the owner.

So, what are you going to do today? What have you wanted to spend two hours doing but haven’t made time for yet? Determine what it is and then go do it. Your Box, your staff and your members will thank you for it.
